Homemade Lemon Pepper is so easy to make, and even better to eat!
Here's what you'll need:
The Lemon Pepper
To make the lemon pepper seasoning, start by zesting 6 lemons using a zester or a box grater with the smallest holes. Make sure not to zest too far down into the white of the lemon. Save the lemons to juice for the sauce. Spread the lemon zest evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the lemon zest in the oven at 175°F and let it bake until the zest has fully dried, about 45-55 minutes. Depending on the coarseness of the lemon zest, you may want to grind it to make it finer. I used a coffee grinder and pulsed for a couple of seconds. Then, mix together the dried lemon zest, freshly ground black pepper, and sea salt. Store in an airtight container.
The Wings
If frying the wings, preheat the oil to 350°F. You could also bake or grill them. Season the wings on both sides with the lemon pepper seasoning. Fry the wings until they reach an internal temperature of 200°F. In a saucepan, melt half a stick of butter. Stir in the juice of 2 lemons and 1 1/4 teaspoon of the lemon pepper seasoning. Toss the wings in the lemon pepper sauce and enjoy!
