Southern Style Green Beans

Southern style green beans are our favorite side dish for any meal, especially during the holidays!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Fresh or frozen green beans
  • Thick sliced bacon
  • White onion
  • Tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper

The Process

Start by trimming the ends of the green beans. Then, in a pot of boiling water, blanch the green beans for 10 minutes. If you're using frozen green beans, microwave them per the instructions on the bag.

Next, dice 4 strips of thick sliced bacon, about 1 cup of white onions, and 1 cup of tomatoes. In a large skillet on medium-high heat, cook the bacon. You want to cook the bacon until it is lightly browned and almost crispy. At this point, add in the diced onions. Cook until the onions are tender, and then, add the green beans. Cook for 2-3 minutes and add in the diced tomatoes. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the tomatoes have cooked down. Season with salt and pepper and enjoy!

1 ½ lbs

Bacon, thick sliced

4 slices

White onion, diced

1 cup

Tomatoes, diced

1 cup

Salt and pepper

To taste

  • If using fresh green beans, trim the ends of the green beans. In a pot of boiling water, blanch the green beans for 10 minutes. If using frozen, microwaveable green beans, cook per the instructions on the bag.
  • Dice 4 strips of thick cut bacon, 1 cup of white onions, and 1 cup of tomatoes.
  • In a large skillet on medium heat, cook the bacon until it starts to brown and is almost crispy. Add the diced onions and cook until tender. Add the green beans and cook for a couple minutes. This should not take long since the green beans were blanched. Next, add the tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes have cooked down, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
